This Armoire is a fabulous representation of turn of the century furniture design. Its simple elegant form is enhanced by fine inlay, as well as a copper relief made by Georg Klimt, depicting female figure with floral garland standing in front of a large profile bust of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
Georg Klimt was a younger brother of the painter Gustav Klimt, for whom he made frames. Georg was of importance in his own right. He worked as a metalsmith on Viennese commissions and even made a silver box for Emperor Franz Josef I. This plaque represents the poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe in profile, accompanied by a poetic muse draped in flower garland.
