This exceptional Biedermeier side chair is a good example of the elegance and inventiveness of Viennese Biedermeier design. Viennese chairs are characterized by a lightness and an imaginative formation of the back.
A similar chair design with a scalloped back (no.69) is known by Josef Danhauser. The drawing is owned by the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna (MAK) as part of a collection of original drawings by Vienna’s most prolific Biedermeier cabinetmaker.
