An almost identical drafting table is exhibited at the Louvre in Paris as part of the exhibition, Biedermeier – Invention of Simplicity. This exhibition originated at the Milwaukee Art Museum, then traveled to Vienna, Austria from where it made its way to Berlin and Paris.The table exhibited at the Biedermeier retrospective originates from the Laxenburg palace outside of Vienna. Archduchess Sophie, mother of the future Emperor Franz Josef I, furnished her rooms with Biedermeier pieces from Josef Danhauser.The angle of the felt covered writing surface of this walnut veneered drafting table can be adjusted accordingly. Its versatility allows this intriguing piece to be used from both sides.
