Biedermeier Mirror
VC-11-41
Austrian, c. 1820
Walnut veneer with gilding
In addition to paintings and drawings, mirrors adorned the walls in the Biedermeier home. They were sometimes displayed in conjunction with console tables, or were hung in their own right. The designs were as varied as those for any other piece of furniture. The frame of this attractive mirror is veneered in a rich walnut with carved and gilt borders with an egg-and-dart motif. The mirror can be hung vertically or horizontally.
