Bohemian engraved glass with Biedermeier couple
SOLD
First half of the 19th century
Middle class prosperity following the Napoleonic wars brought about the revival of glass engraving. During the Biedermeier era friendship was sentimentalized and all anniversaries acknowledged. A token of affection was often fashioned from glass, such as this exceptional piece, depicting a seated woman offering a bush of flowers to her beloved. Engraved on other side “Niehm diesen Busch den Liebe flicht von Rosen und vergiesmein nicht” (Take this Bouquet of roses and violets in the name of love).
