Having studied under Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser at the Kunstgewerbe Schule, Eduard Josef Wimmer-Wisgrill was in charge of the fashion department of the Wiener Werkstaette from 1910-1922, for which he made these sketches for a long lady’s dress. His work also included costume and stage designs for the Cabaret Fledermaus and fashion designs for ‘Die Mode’ 1914/15.

From 1923-1925 he moved to NY and Chicago, where he taught at the Chicago School of the Art Institute. Wimmer’s oeuvre, which included furniture, glass, metalwork and leather design was exhibited at major design exhibitions throughout his career.
