Fine Biedermeier suite of seating furniture
SOLD
Munich, c.1820
Cherry wood with ebony inlays depicting lions and neoclassical scrolls.
The three-piece ebonized decorative supports in the backs of the chairs, in their spreading form, resemble a reed plant. This decoration had its origin in British furniture which used three feathers, as they are shown in the coat of arms of the Prince of Wales. The acanthus leaf detail with lion figures has its origin in classical antiquity. The sitting group can be purchased all together or as separate pieces.
