Soliflore Vase
Nancy, 1903/04

H: 7 inches

Along with Louis Comfort Tiffany, Emile Galle was one of the most talented glassmakers of all time.
Raised to take over the family’s glass and ceramic business in Alsace-Loraine, Galle developed such new techniques as intercalaire (interplayed decoration) and marquetry-de-verre (glass marquetry). He also used engraving, etching, various patinations, and enameling to great affect. Like other Art Nouveau artists, Galle was primarily interested in natural forms, as can be seen in this exquisite soliflore with interplayed clematis decoration.
