Biedermeier Desk
Vienna, c.1825 Walnut veneer Biedermeier design was based on symmetry, clean, uninterrupted lines – and decorative elements borrowed from Neoclassical architecture - such as the columns of this desk. These are supported by the oval base, which is concave on the long sides, its shape somewhat reminding us of lyras - a motif favored by Biedermeier cabinetmakers, since music played such a vital role at the time. The oval top is fitted with a single drawer. H:30“ 47“ x 31“
