France, 1811 Gilt and polychrome porcelain Iron-red stencilled and incised marks Prov: Prince von Schwarzenberg This very fine gilt pierced basket from the 'service a marly d'or', is decorated with four octagonal cartouches, each finely painted with birds against a pale blue sky. This exquisite basket was owned by the Prince von Schwarzenberg since 1812. The period of revolution and the setting up of the new Republic and thefirst Imperial epoch (1804-14) saw a revolution in ceramic taste at Sevres. The shapes became more classical in an Empire manner, a taste which inEngland would be called Regency.
